Maureen Hovy started her career as teacher in Mathematics, Physics and Information Systems. She then moved to Barclays Bank South Africa as Training Analyst for the Information Technology Division and progressed to Senior Manager Career Planning and Job Evaluation. Soon after the introduction to remuneration she realised that Rewards was her future; the discipline where business, statistics, information technology and humanities intersect.
Over the next decade she held roles as executive and functional expert in global advisory firms covering all aspects of remuneration and benefits; job evaluation, base pay, incentives, commissions, executive compensation, benefits, market competitiveness and training.
In 2000 she was accredited as Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) and faculty for all GRP modules. She has presented these modules in the USA, Asia Pacific and Africa and continues as regular faculty for the region.
Maureen relocated to Sydney Australia in 2003, entering the reward market at Ernst & Young. In addition to local Australian remuneration and benefits, her interest expanded to global rewards, emerging economy solutions and Asia-Pacific compensation and benefits.
The first regional role in Asia was leading Huhtamaki remuneration and benefits in Asia Oceania Africa where she extended managerial job evaluation to all countries and crafted a foundational global reward strategy.
As Director Global Rewards, Asia Pacific at Unisys Maureen developed a total rewards market competitiveness model and designed an innovative rewards strategy to facilitate employee retention in India.
In 2010 she was appointed Director Compensation and Benefits, Asia Pacific Japan and China at Cisco Systems where she delivered a wide spectrum of reward solutions. These included developing a global promotion velocity algorithm for emerging countries, adapting global incentive plans to local environments, and setting up a reward strategy and executive incentive plans for a joint venture in East Asia. She was instrumental in the design and delivery of a values-based benefit strategy for the region.
In 2012/2013 Maureen presented papers at conferences hosted by the National Reward Group Australia, the South African Reward Association and WorldatWork USA.
She founded Hovy Reward Solutions in 2013 and consults in strategic design and implementation of global and local rewards, board remuneration, compensation, benefits, market analysis and competitiveness. She provides end-to-end rewards training: from analysis to strategy and from remuneration component to global total rewards. She partnered with WorldatWork in developing the global reward training courses Global Rewards Analysis – A Framework for Success and Global Rewards Strategy and Design.
